Currently we are working on a small bathroom remodel.  The house , as have many in Tulsa, Oklahoma, has previously been piered and we have a crack running directly thru the middle of where the shower will go.  We don’t want to have a leaking shower some time down the road or risk having cracked tile.  We are using a solid shower pan insert which could become damaged or punctured.   The shower pan is what allows the shower to hold water and funnel it down into the drain.  It is important to use the right materials and barrier systems so that water does not stand and end up creating the damp environment required for the growth of mold.  Our solution to this shower pan problem is to completely remove all of the concrete, pack the existing soil and repour the concrete after the drain has been set for the remodeled shower.  Do it right, don’t take shortcuts!
